Green DogWalks is a public outreach project that seeks to create positive discourse among dog walkers, restoration advocates, and other stakeholders in San Francisco's natural areas. Using current data on dog walking patterns at Bernal Hill, project contributors developed public education goals that attempt to find common ground among park users.
Rachel Kesel, a professional dog handler and geographer, collected data in March and April of 2006 on the intensity and character of off-leash activities on Bernal Hill. The sustainable dog walking tips blend her experience as a dog handler with land based information about Bernal Hill. She continues to work on this project through the outreach phase, and will recollect the data on off-leash activities and demographics in March and April of 2008.
Green DogWalks offers creative, non-regulatory approaches to some of the dog related issues that surface in parks. Contributions to conflict resolution, proactive steps we can all take. Support this project by sending your friends, clients, or members to this website. Or by simply talking about sustainable dog walking while you're in the park!
